The Pandemic: Facing AIDS education package brings stories of people living with AIDS from around the world into the classroom. AIDS takes millions of lives each year, devastating families, communities, and seriously impacting national economies. Political leaders, health care providers, and community groups across the globe are racing to stop the spread of the virus. What can students and teachers do to help?

The education package gives teachers tools to motivate students in the fight against AIDS. The curriculum provides students with an opportunity to share their reactions to the stories in the film, and to discuss the social and economic issues that affect countries in crisis. They will also learn to engage actively with the AIDS crisis by finding out what they can do to make an impact, both in their own communities and at a global level. The goal is to inspire students and give them a model for getting involved with this and other issues of importance to them.

The Pandemic: Facing AIDS education package contains the following materials:
  • Video – A documentary film, profiling people from around the world who are dealing with HIV/AIDS.
  • Education Workbook – an instructional booklet that provides essential information on the disease and statistics about the epidemic, and includes an overview of the AIDS crisis in countries around the world. The workbook contains five lesson plans, with discussion questions, group exercises, and activities structured to help teachers guide students through an investigation of each of the film's themes.
  • Education Workbook Teacher's Guide – a teacher's version of the student workbook, with detailed information about using the lesson plans and answers to discussion questions.
  • Poster – teachers can post this in the classroom to generate interest and enliven learning.
